Hey kiddies!!!

VOZ back with another blog entry. Sorry I'm a week late, but I do have a life outside of radio. I know it's hard for you to believe that, but it's true. I've been an amature bullfighter for over five years now and it pretty much takes up a lot time, what with the fixing of the stab wounds and all.

 

BUT, I digress,

I,VOZ, figured i would give you, the faithful listener, a little insight into what makes VOZ tick. First, since I am in Rock Radio and listen to and talk about ROCK N' ROLL all day, I decided to give you a list of the bands that I feel are the BEST EVER!!!!!

Now let me say that this list does not encompass ALL of my likes when it comes to music. These are BANDS that I feel are simply the BEST at what they do. These are BANDS that you can take any album from, pick ANY song on the album, play it, and I will like it. These are BANDS that have done it their way and because of that, have created a sound that is unique to them. MOST of these bands do not sound like any other band out there today or ever.

After you read this list you may say: "VOZ!!! I thought you were a HEAVY METAL GUY!!!! How come no LAMB OF GOD, or GWAR, wtf!?!?!?!"

Well my answer to that is: I have my favorites and you have yours, let's listen to both and share a tall glass of Old Grandad together!!! If you don't like one of these bands on the list, that's cool. You probably weren't raised right and it's your parents fault. Don't worry I don't blame you. AND if I don't like a band on your list, that's ok too. It's probably because they suck!

Now on with the list:

(THESE ARE IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)

 

1. BLACK SABBATH- You can not go wrong with the all-mighty Sabbath. Their first 8 albums are classics and without them we would not have METAL they way we know it today.

 

2. LED ZEPPELIN- These are the guys that NEVER made a bad song. NEVER! Take ANY song and play it to prove it to yourself.

 

3. THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE- um.....Jimi Hendrix, 'Nuff said!

 

4. THE DOORS- No band before or since EVER sounded like these guys. Plus, they had the original bad boy of Rock. Tremendous band, tremendous music.

 

5. FUGAZI- Who? Let me put it this way, if you don't know FUGAZI, do yourself a favor and check 'em out!!! You will not be dissapointed. This band has done it "their" way for years and been extrememly successful despite no major label, no posters of these guys and charge only around 10 dollars for their shows. Hell they don't even make t-shirts. FUGAZI is all about the music. The way it should be. For those of you that have heard FUGAZI, you know what I'm talking about.

 

6. SLAYER- There ya go METAL heads. SLAYER has been the same since they started and that's why they are on my list. No matter what kind of stupid trends come and go with popular music, I know I can always count on SLAYER to kick my ass and put a smile on my face.

 

7. THE RAMONES- When I was little, these guys were like my idols. That is probably the reason I dress the way I do today. Ripped jeans, t-shirt, leather jacket. These guys showed me that it doesn't matter what you wear or how many records you sell. What matters is that people relate to the music AND TONS of people LOVE THE RAMONES. I am one of those people.

 

8. NINE INCH NAILS- The word "artist" is thrown around a lot in the music industry. It seems like any band that has a hit record is an "artist". Well, in my eyes, Trent Reznor of NIN is an "ARTIST" of the highest calibre. It's not just about the music when you're dealing with NIN. It's the lights, the sights, the sounds. I can listen to a NIN album that I have heard a million times and discover something new with each listen. My hats off to you, Trent.

 

9. BLACK FLAG- When a kid asked me in High School to describe BLACK FLAG, I told him to place his hands behind the back of his head, join his fingers together, and ram his head into the nearest wall as hard as he could. If you do that, you will only feel 1/4 of the pain and anguish that is in a BLACK FLAG Album. These guys taught me that it is NOT ok to suck! If you are in a band you better give 110% every night no matter what. That's what BLACK FLAG did, and they MOWED over many weaker bands in the '80's. Plus they had on of the most original guitar players ever, Greg Ginn.

 

10. THE CLASH- Last(on this list) but certainly not least is THE CLASH. Another band that never made a bad song. I love every CLASH album and hold them up there with some of the best music ever created on Earth. At one time they were called "The Only Band That Matters" Pick up ANY CLASH album and discover for yourself why.

 

Also considered for this list: MINISTRY, MOTORHEAD, NICK CAVE, DAVID BOWIE, ALICE COOPER (band), THE STOOGES.

As you can see I could do this all day, but unfortunately I don't have the time. I need time for myself and my drinking problem!

This list is by no means my final end all be all. I will list some of my favorite albums of all time(some of them from bands not on this list), I will also give you lists of my favorite solo performers and favorite live shows. Once you see those lists you will get a better understanding of where I come from when it comes to music.

If you've never heard music from any of these bands, SHAME ON YOU!!!!! But seriously, CHECK 'EM out!!! Most of them have MySpace pages dedicated to them and if they don't you can usually find their music somewhere on the internet.

It's your 'ol friend VOZ here to let you know that I have decided to begin a BLOG here on the 'ol QWK ROCK webpage!!!!

Listeners of my Radio Show  (weekdays from 2PM til 7PM) will now be able to have all those questions you have about the man simply known as VOZ answered!!! I'm sure as a faithful listener of QWK ROCk you may have found yourself asking yourself questions about VOZ such as, "Is VOZ really that crazy?" or "How does VOZ make me laugh so hard that I can't even drink my Genny white-can like a normal volunteer fireman?" or even "How does VOZ even hold down a job?"

Well dear listener, all those questions (and more!!!) will be answered here in the VOZ BLOG!!!!!

This will pretty much be an extension of my radio show. I will Rant, Rave, Bitch, Scream, Praise, and Disdain all types of subjects. I will discuss all kinds of topics ranging from a list of my Top 10 Bands ever to my feelings on the indigenous natives of American Samoa. You as a faithful listener can look at it this way: If my radio show were a DVD, this BLOG would be the Special Features. Which is to say, they are pretty cool to look at, but when it comes right down to it, you could have lived out the rest of your life quite happily without them.
